Frequently asked questions.

What clay and/or glazes do you use?

Each piece of our pottery is handcrafted and designed to be both beautiful and built to last. We use commercially available clays and glazes. The glazes are lead-free, food-safe glazes that meet FDA safety standards, ensuring our pottery is safe for serving and cooking. All pottery is cadmium and lead free and safe for everyday use. Here’s how to keep your pottery functional and looking its best for years to come:

Stoneware Recommendations:

  • Microwave, oven & dishwasher safe – Our stoneware is made for everyday use, whether you’re warming up leftovers or serving something fresh from the oven.

  • Temperature matters – Avoid sudden shifts in temperature, like transferring a dish straight from the freezer to a hot oven, as this can cause thermal shock.

  • For outdoor pieces – If you have our garden pots, we recommend bringing them inside during freezing temperatures to prevent cracking.

Lizella Clay Recommendations:

Several of our pieces are made with a clay mined and processed in Lizella just outside of Macon. So it’s a type of good ol’ Georgia red clay.  You’ll notice it’s courser than most pottery clays producing a more primitive, organic look.  You can recognize it by the dark brownish-red bottom on finished pieces. Lizella clay is used by potters all over the United States and is known for the gorgeous finishes that are produced once it’s glazed.

Lizella clay is considered a terra cotta clay and as such is fairly porous and not leak-proof long term.  So we recommend it for serving but not for storage of liquids.  It will hold liquids fine for a short period of time, but they will leach through if left sitting for several hours.  We encourage you to not place any pottery pieces on furniture that could be damaged by liquid. Nor should Lizella clay be microwaved as it may retain moisture and could crack or explode.

Handmade to be timeless and functional, our pottery is meant to be used, loved, and passed down.
